November 8 – Conservation Conversations: Protecting Species

Keynote Speakers:

Dr. Sarrah Kaye - Dr Kaye is the current veterinarian and general curator at the Staten Island Zoo. She previously worked at Cornell University and Rosamond Gifford Zoo, and in 2017 became a board-certified member of the American College of Zoological Medicine. For the past two years, she has served as the field veterinarian for the Belize Tapir Project, which aims to monitor and protect the endangered Central American tapir in its native habitat.

Dr. Marc Valitutto - Since departing from his post as the General Curator and Veterinarian for the Staten Island Zoo, Dr. Marc Valitutto has been spending time traversing the Asian continent with a mission: (1) saving pangolins, the world’s most trafficked mammal; (2) advancing giant panda healthcare; and (3) preventing the global human population from the next viral pandemic.  Dr. Valitutto is a wildlife veterinary medical officer for the Smithsonian’s Global Health Program and has been tasked with advancing wildlife health for the institution throughout Asia.  Please join us in hearing how you can participate in these critical animals’ conservation and global health needs.
